LCD, LED and Plasma Flat Screen TVs’

 

 

The usual question of a customer in stores selling LCD, LED and Plasma flat screen TVs’ is which ones better and how so. This question is the usual problem of store owners and sellers who sells this kind of electronic merchandise.

But first let us summarize in easy terms how these LCD, LED and Plasma flat screen TVs’ work so that we may have a gist of what these things are all about.

Performances may depend on the manufacturer or the environment where the appliance may be installed.

Plasma TVs’ technology consists of using three tubes of gas per pixel which are then ignited by electricity. These tubes are of color red, green and blue. If the plasma TV wants to create a white image then all the gas tubes are blasted or ignited with electricity to the maxed or full intensity thus creating a white picture. When a darker image is desired then the intensity is lowered until the needed darkness is achieved. This method gives plasma TVs’ a rich and colorful picture.

LCD TVs’ on the other hand, work by the way of having a white backlight inside the TV panel and a colored membrane on the outside surface. This white backlight is always on and is liken to an X-ray film. If you tap an LCD monitor, you can basically see a white light in the area where your fingers touched the monitor. In the space between colored membrane and the white backlight, an LCD membrane is found. This LCD membrane is the one you can find just like in your calculator. Basically, in order for the pictures to formed, the LCD membrane pixels are turned on and off depending on the image. Thus, in talking about refresh rates like 120, 240 in LCD monitors, that is talking about how fast these “LCD doors” open and close per second.

Just like in a plasma TV, LCDs’ works by closing and opening the LCD “doors”. If red is needed then the two other “doors” are closed and only red is opened. If black is needed then all the LCD doors are closed and so a black image is shown.

The drawback in LCD’s is that the white light seeps on the edges of the “doors” that’s why the image quality is not as rich as you can see in plasma TVs’.

As advancement to LCD TVs’, the LED based LCD TV or LED TVs’ are developed. This technology enhances the old LCD TV by using a bunch of lights as replacement to the usual constant white backlight of an LCD panel. This bunch of light can then be turned on and off depending on the desired picture to be shown. And because the white backlight is no longer constant or since the white light can now be turned completely off, there is no longer the problem of unnecessary white light seeping through the edges of the LCD “doors” thus getting a clearer and richer picture than a typical LDC TV panel.

In the end, it is up to the customer and their budget to decide what are the best LCD, LED and Plasma flat screen TV’s for them.
